One thing we know – Pennsylvania isn’t short on picturesque outdoor destinations. From east to west and everywhere in between, we can enjoy nature’s beauty all year round. September and October are perfect times to plan a relaxing, weekend camping trip (maybe even see some autumn colors). So, we’ve curated five of the best campgrounds in PA for the fall season – and RVs too!
1. Beaver Family Campground
This campground in Bucks County, PA is great for tent and trailer camping – and even has a few cabins. During the summer, you might enjoy the on-site pool, but there is plenty to enjoy in the fall too!
Nearby is Bucks County River Country for kayaking, tubing, or canoeing down the Delaware River as well as Nockamixon State Park with its hiking and biking trails and a 1,450-acre lake for boating or fishing, and more!
The Beaver Family Campground also hosts activities throughout the season. In October they feature Autumn Days with hayrides and caramel apples and a Halloween Social with pumpkin carving and trick-or-treating.
2. Pioneer Campground
This destination in Sullivan County, PA is another great camping spot for families. Open from early April to early December, it’s a perfect place to enjoy the fall weather and colors. They offer cottages and cabins as well as tent and RV camping sites.
On-site features include a heated swimming pool, playground, dog park, baseball field, and horseshoes. Plus, they offer events throughout the season. In the fall, they host a Chili Cook-off and Halloween festivities.
Off-site, you can explore the great outdoors at Worlds End State Park and Loyalsock State Park. At Loyalsock you can hike to Jacoby Run Falls or go horseback riding, mountain biking, hunting, or fishing. At Worlds End, you can also hike, hunt and fish, or go swimming and whitewater boating.

3. Black Moshannon State Park
This unique watershed covering almost 3,400 acres of forests and wetlands offers tent, trailer, and cabin camping spots from early April through mid-December. Much of the camping area is ADA accessible as well. Because of its unique environment, you can see wildlife and plants that are typically only seen farther north. You can also enjoy cooler summer days.
In the fall, you can still enjoy hiking its 20 miles of trails and go boating or fishing on Black Moshannon Lake. On October 1st, they host a Haunted Lake Loop Trail with candy, campfires, and roasted marshmallows. If you visit in the winter, the park also offers ice boating and ice fishing.
4. Woodland Campground
This family-friendly camping spot in Woodland, PA offers cabins as well as tent and trailer campsites through the end of October. They offer lots of on-site activities throughout the season, including fishing and boating on their lake, hiking and biking trails, an arcade and game room, horseshoes, volleyball, and a playground. They throw events like cornhole competitions, bingo, Oktoberfest, and a Halloween party.
Off-site, you can kayak down the West Susquehanna River in the Pennsylvania Wilds or take a scenic riverwalk. You can also explore Bilger’s Rocks or visit one of the area’s wineries.
