Discovery FCU Support Breast Cancer Support Services of Berks

Throughout October, Discovery Federal Credit Union (Discovery FCU) demonstrated its commitment to the community by hosting several fundraising activities in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The efforts supported the Breast Cancer Support Services (BCSS) of Berks County, a local nonprofit providing resources and guidance to individuals and families affected by breast cancer.

During the month, Discovery FCU launched its new CU Rewards Program, which allows members using the Discovery Visa® Credit Card to use points a variety of reward options including charitable donations. To align with the organization’s community focus, members were encouraged to donate their reward points directly to BCSS, creating a simple, seamless way to give back through everyday spending.

Employees also joined together to raise awareness and funds inside the branch. Each Friday in October, beginning October 3, team members wore pink Discovery FCU T-shirts as a visible reminder of support for those impacted by breast cancer. Pink-shirt Fridays ran through October 24, reinforcing the organization’s ongoing dedication throughout the month.

Additional fundraising initiatives included the sale of breast cancer awareness bracelets, available for purchase through cash donations or directly from member accounts, and a flower sale held on International Credit Union Day. Proceeds from both efforts were donated entirely to Breast Cancer Support Services of Berks County.

At the end of the month, Discovery FCU had raised over $250 for BCSS and then added their own additional donation to total $1,000. This total does not include any donations that may have been made to BCSS through CU Rewards.

“Supporting BCSS allows us to give back in a way that directly benefits individuals right here in Berks County,” said Michele Smith, President/CEO of Discovery Federal Credit Union. “Our team is proud to stand with those affected by breast cancer and to continue finding meaningful ways to contribute to their strength and recovery.”

Through these combined efforts, Discovery Federal Credit Union reaffirmed its commitment to community involvement and to causes that have a lasting, local impact.
