The focus was on local charitable organizations, but everyone got in on the fun. Over 450 people showed up for the event where they enjoyed ice cream from Mister Softee, hot dogs, and prizes. One girl said, “This is the best day ever!”

Beyond the usual fun, community members supported local nonprofits. The credit union offered up donations to the member’s choice of four charitable organizations for each new account opened. The organizations featured were the Animal Rescue League of Berks County, Breast Cancer Support Services of Berks, Children’s Alopecia Project, and Helping Harvest Food Bank. The program resulted in $400 worth of donations. The credit union also held a food drive for Helping Harvest Food Bank, which resulted in several boxes of food for the organization’s Weekender program.

“At Discovery FCU, we know people are more than their account balance. That’s why we are dedicated to helping everyone in our community,” said Discovery FCU President/CEO, Michele Smith. “We are true believers in ‘people helping people’ and this event was an opportunity to spread joy and bring attention to local charitable organizations.”
